Topical issues will be presented by students and faculty members (both from within and outside the sponsoring groups). Students will recieve 1/4 unit (1 hour) credit for making a presentation and writing a short summary (2-4 pages) of the issue presented. Focus will be on epidemiologic issues that are currently receiving attention in the media and in the scientific literature. Presentations will originate from accounts in the popular media, which will be traced back by the presenters to the original scientific communications. Presentations and papers will include a comparison between these alternative channels of information.
